In our ongoing efforts to ensure proper and fair payment from all drivers, Metro ExpressLanes will be implementing an automated occupancy detection system on the I-10 and I-110 ExpressLanes. This automated-detection technology determines the number of persons in a vehicle and compares it to the switch setting on the transponder allowing Metro to charge the proper tolls for ExpressLanes travel.
In the future, additional cameras will be installed along the Metro ExpressLanes only to determine the number of people in the vehicle. Any facial images captured will be redacted for privacy purposes.
It is important to have your transponder mounted in the correct location with the switch set to accurately show the number of people in your vehicle. As a reminder, carpools and vanpools can use the I-10* and I-110 toll-free if their FasTrak Flex is set correctly. If a transponder is set to an incorrect position, the registered owner of the vehicle will receive a violation for the toll amount and a $4 processing fee for each assessed toll.
Metro will provide additional communication before the system goes live.
We thank you for your cooperation!
